1963 Apollo 5000 GT
This 1963 Apollo 5000 GT is one of approximately 87 cars produced under the Apollo and Vetta Ventura nameplates between 1962 and 1965. The Italian-built body was refurbished in red in 2006, and the 300ci Buick V8 was rebuilt in 2018/2019. Other equipment includes a BorgWarner four-speed manual transmission, Borrani wire wheels, and a black vinyl interior. This Apollo was purchased in 2017 reportedly from its owner of over 30 years before coming to the Tucson Auto Museum.
The Ron Plescia-designed body received styling tweaks by Franco Scaglione and was built in Turin, Italy by Intermeccanica before being shipped to Oakland, California for final assembly. A cosmetic refurbishment was performed circa 2006 and reportedly included stripping the body and refinishing it in red.
The interior features black vinyl upholstery with patterned inserts, as well as matching carpets and door panels. A fire extinguisher is mounted behind the seats, as are a pair of Kraco coaxial speakers, although no radio is present.
